Raju (18) and Brijesh (19), sons of a daily wager from Rehua Lalganj village in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh, recently cleared the IIT Advanced examinations. Raju secured 167th rank in his first attempt while his brother Brijesh stood 410th in the prestigious exam.
“I need to thank the members of the press for bringing the issue into spotlight as it was only after this that the children reached me. Whenever you (media) will bring any such case to our notice… the Samajwadi Party government will come forward and help the poor,” Mr Yadav told reporters after a meeting of the state cabinet in Lucknow.
Mr Yadav had extended help and announced that his government would honour the two brothers and bear the expenses of their admission and education.
On decisions taken in the meeting, he said the Nawabganj Bird Sanctury in Unnao will be named after freedom fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad as he hailed from that city and the Lucknow Zoo after Nawab Wajid Ali Shah.
