"Attend Yoga Camp," IIT Roorkee Students Were Reportedly Ordered

Roorkee:  As people across India joined the government’s massive yoga initiative on Sunday, a group of students at IIT-Roorkee were forced into it, suggests a circular issued to them.

The circular, purportedly from the Dean of IIT Roorkee, said: “All the students of IIT Roorkee summer hostels are hereby directly to compulsorily attend one week yoga camp from June 18, 2015 to June 24, 2015. Attendance in the yoga camp is mandatory and will be recorded on the spot every day.”

NDTV has not yet verified the letter, which was sent by a student.

The government has claimed that participation in its International Yoga Day celebrations on Sunday was voluntary.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the biggest of the events organized at Delhi’s ceremonial road Rajpath, and performed yoga poses with nearly 36,000 students, officials, politicians and others.

In the days before the holiday declared by the UN following PM Modi’s appeal, bureaucrats were photographed practicing yoga with instructors.
