Government Protecting Vasundhara Raje"s Son Dushyant, Lalit Modi: Congress

New Delhi:  The Congress today alleged that the government is shielding former Indian Premier League chief Lalit Modi and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s son Dushyant, and hit out at Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for calling a transaction worth Rs 11 crore between the two as “commercial.”

“Additional Solicitor General on behalf of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) told the Delhi High Court that action has been initiated by ED… on top of this the Finance Minister gave a statement – Mr Lalit Modi’s Rs 11 crore transactions with Ms Raje’s son was a commercial one. This is a clear cut cover up,” senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said today.

“Mr Lalit Modi, Vasundhara Raje and her son are being shielded by the government. If a finance minister clears this illegal transaction, then how can the ED not be influenced?” he added.

Dushyant Singh has been under attack over media reports that his company received Rs. 11.63 crore in investments from Lalit Modi in 2008.

The Congress has been demanding the resignation of Ms Raje after documents released by Lalit Modi’s team showed Ms Raje had agreed to secretly support his immigration application to the United Kingdom, a country which he has made his home to avoid legal processes in India.

Lalit Modi, 49, travelled to London in 2010 after the Indian Premier League (IPL) became embroiled in allegations of match-fixing and illegal betting.
