In AAP Government"s First Budget, Lion"s Share For Education

New Delhi:  Delhi’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government today announced a Rs 41,129 crore budget, which includes a new “Swaraj fund” worth Rs 253 crore.

“This is the country’s first Swaraj Budget prepared by the Aam Aadmi (common man),” Manish Sisodia, the Delhi Finance Minister, said while announcing his government’s first ever budget.

The Swaraj fund will be allocated in 11 assembly segments to begin with. It is a pilot initiative of AAP, which came to power in February with a spectacular mandate. Mr Sisodia says projects will be decided by people and each constituency will be allotted Rs 20 crore.

Of the total budget, the largest amount – Rs 9836 crore – has been allocated for education. Rs 5,908 crore has been set aside for municipal corporations.

Rs 1,690 crore has been allocated for subsidy on water and electricity.

Last year, when Delhi was under President’s Rule, union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented a Rs.36,776 crore budget.
