The results were to be declared on June 5. But the court said, “We will decide the fate of the exam on June 10 and we want some tangible information so that we can take a decision”.
Investigation has revealed that more than 700 students had benefited from the leak. But the court has given the Haryana police a week’s time to find the real beneficiaries.
Around 6.3 lakh students sat for the exam, of whom 2,000 will get admission to medical institutes across India.
The bench — comprising Justice Prafulla C Pant and Justice Amitava Roy — was hearing a petition that asked that the test be conducted afresh.
But the Central Board of Secondary Education, which conducts the exam, denied there was any leak and said repeating it will take three or four months and the whole process will be stayed.
The Special Investigation Team which is probing the case had told the court that the mastermind was one Roop Singh Dangi. He used government and private doctors to find out the answers and sent those to students through WhatsApp and SMS from multiple phones and SIM cards.
Dangi, the SIT said, is yet to be traced, but 12 others involved in the racket have been arrested. The court asked why Dangi is yet to be arrested.
