Left Calls For Protest Against Centre's 'Failure to Curb Inflation'

Prices of essential commodities have touched highs, the CPI said.

“Prices of all essential food items have touched rooftops and the Centre is least bothered about the plight of common man and fixed income groups of people. The poor are worst victims of price rise,” CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy said in a statement today.

He urged party cadres to make the October 5 protest day a “grand success”.

Demanding an “immediate ban” on forward trading of commodities and de-hoarding to control prices, the CPI leader also reiterated party stand of distributing essential edible items through public distribution system saying “it alone can bring solace to suffering masses”.

The ex-MP further expressed concerns over rise in farmers’ suicides and demanded that the NDA government paid more attention on “serious” agrarian crisis and drought situation than FDI.

“CPI demands NDA government should pay attention on agriculture than FDI as it is in serious crisis. It urges Centre to ensure relief reaches peasants in drought-hit areas immediately,” he said.
