Mamata Banerjee Orders Arrest of Lawmaker After Clash in Bengal College

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has ordered the arrest of a lawmaker from her party who had been allegedly involved in a clash at a college near Kolkata, which had left 15 people injured.

Clashes had erupted at the Fakir Chand College in Diamond Harbour allegedly between two factions of the students’ wing of the ruling Trinamool Congress over the control of the Union room. One of the rival groups was allegedly led by local Trinamool legislator Dipak Haldar.

Mr Haldar has denied any involvement but the state education minister Partha Chatterjee said the Chief Minister has ordered his arrest.

The clashes took place in the presence of a strong police force and had left at least 15 people injured. Three of them sustained serious injuries and had to be hospitalised.
